World War II : Australian War Memorial, Canberra

The project of the memorial was started in 1927, but was finished only in 1941, after the outbreak of World War II. The Memorial is a two-storey building with a floor plan in the shape of a cross. Its design is unbelievable and has a Byzantine architecture style.This is Australia's national memorial to the members who have died or participated in the wars of the Commonwealth of Australia. It is placed on Canberra’s Capital Hill beyond Lake Burley Griffin, nearby Australian Parliament House.

The War Memorial is considered one of the nation's greatest memorials. It's a tribute to the 100,000 Australian men and women who have lost their lives in serving their country. The Australian War Memorial was opened in 1941 and every year hosts both Anzac Day and Remembrance Day commemorations that are attended by hundreds of people, both old and young.

The Australian War Memorial consists of three parts: the Commemorative Area including the Hall of Memory with the Tomb of the Unknown Australian Soldier, the Memorial's galleries - museum and a Research Centre. Also there is a Sculpture Gardens which have a marvelous view which contains a variety of outdoor monuments. The sidewalk through the garden is embedded with bronze plaques commemorating various branches of service, specific units, and historical events. There are also a number of sculptures, including a gigantic figure of a World War II-era Australian soldier which was originally located in the Hall of Memory.

              which opened in 2008, aims to preserve and convey the experiences of Australian servicemen and women on overseas deployments from Korea and Vietnam through to Rwanda, Iraq and Afghanistan. In the age of the virtual theme park it was a major challenge for the AWM to present these epic stories

Describe legendary musician Taj Mahal in a single word or phrase? Impossible.
You could call him a singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, ethnomusicologist, two-time Grammy-winner, world-class musical collaborator, musicians' advocate, world traveler, fisherman, or cigar aficionado. These titles are all accurate, yet none convey the warmth, humor, and soulfulness of Taj and his music.

Agra, once the capital of the Mughal Empire during the 16th and early 18th centuries, is one and a half hours by express train from New Delhi. Tourists from all over the world visit Agra not to see the ruins of the red sandstone fortress built by the Mughal emperors but to make a pilgrimage to Taj Mahal, India’s most famous architectural wonder, in a land where magnificent temples and edificies abound to remind visitors about the rich civilization of a country that is slowly but surely lifting itself into an industrialized society.

The postcard picture of Taj Mahal does not adequately convey the legend, the poetry and the romance that shroud what Rabindranath Tagore calls "a teardrop on the cheek of time". Taj Mahal means "Crown Palace" and is in fact the most well preserved and architecturally beautiful tomb in the world. It is best described by the English poet, Sir Edwin Arnold, as "Not a piece of architecture, as other buildings are, but the proud passions of an emperor’s love wrought in living stones." It is a celebration of woman built in marble and that’s the way to appreciate it.

The most significant part of Shah Jahan's life history began in 1607 when he was 15 and was betrothed to Arjumand Banu Begum, the granddaughter of a Persian  and was just 14 at that time. After they got married in 1612, Arjumand became the unquestioned love of his life. Khurram, upon finding her appearance and character elect among all the women of the time, bestowed her with the title of Mumtaz Mahal, meaning "Jewel of the Palace". Although Mumtaz was one among the few wives Shah Jahan had had, according to the official court chronicler Qazwini, the relationship with his other wives "had nothing more than the status of marriage. The intimacy, deep affection, attention and favor which His Majesty had for the Cradle of Excellence (Mumtaz) exceeded by a thousand times what he felt for any other". She was his inseparable companion, accompanying him even on military ventures, a trusted confidante and their relationship was intense.

Hydra boasts an extremely beautiful landscape with a simple architecture with no congestion but also fresh air: vehicle access on the island is totally prohibited. Pedestrian areas are generous and distances can be crossed by tourists on donkeys or bicycles. Hydra is the most beautiful island in the Saronic Gulf.

Hydrofoils called Flying Dolphins leave the Piraeus Port in Athens several times a day. The trip takes about one hour 35 minutes and costs 25.50 euros, or $36 at $1.42 to the euro, one way.
